Lake Texoma is a year-round getaway for anglers, boaters and families, and lodging around the lake ranges from rustic cabins and lake houses to hotels in nearby towns. This guide explains where to look and how to choose the right place for your trip.
Lake Texoma is a reservoir on the Red River along the Texas–Oklahoma border, created by Denison Dam, which was completed in 1944 and is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Tulsa District. The Red and Washita rivers feed the lake, and its shoreline touches Grayson and Cooke counties in Texas and Bryan, Marshall and Love counties in Oklahoma. Towns around the lake include Denison, Pottsboro and Gordonville on the Texas side and Durant, Kingston and Madill on the Oklahoma side.
The Texas side, around Pottsboro, Denison and Gordonville, is close to Sherman and the Dallas–Fort Worth area. Eisenhower State Park and the Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge are nearby. The Oklahoma side, around Kingston, Durant and Madill, includes Lake Texoma State Park and quick access to the main body of the lake. Both sides have marinas, so pick the area closest to where you plan to fish or boat.
